The 'U' Pentomino [Le pentamino 'U'.]




A pentomino is a polygon made of five squares, each pair sharing a common side. There are 12 different pentominos:


The 'F' Pentomino

The 'I' Pentomino
I
The 'L' Pentomino
L
The 'N' Pentomino
N
The 'P' Pentomino
P
The 'T' Pentomino
T
The 'U' Pentomino
U
The 'V' Pentomino
V
The 'W' Pentomino
W
The 'X' Pentomino
X
The 'Y' Pentomino
Y
The 'Z' Pentomino
Z


Using rotations and symmetries they can tile certain rectangles and, for example, there are 2339 ways of tiling a 6x10 one (one can find a reference to this puzzle in Imperial Earth published by Arthur C. Clarke in 1975)!
