Abstract: How were done the synthetic pictures of Monument Valley?

This picture of Monument Valley at sunset
is a synthetic one. It was computed using:

an iterative process in order to generate fractal fields

a fractal bidimensional height field obtained by means of this process

a distorted version of this field,
-
a fractal texture map obtained by means of the distorted fractal bidimensional height field,
-
a tridimensional visualization of the distorted fractal bidimensional height field
with texture mapping,

then, fractal clouds were added
-
and sun effects
-
or again artistic effects.

Finally, everything can be animated (landscape and clouds)
