Superposition linéaire des six états propres suivants de l'atome d'Hydrogène:

La densité de probabilité de présence de l'électron est alors calculée à l'intérieur d'un domaine parallélépipédique dont le centre est occupé par le proton. Le long de la ligne de visée, cette densité est intégrée et visualisée à l'aide d'une échelle de luminance croissante.
